What is the gospel? The gospel is the Good News of God, and the New Testament Book of Romans explains the gospel very clearly. Romans answers the following questions:
First, the bad news. We have all sinned against God.
“…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God..”
Romans 3.23
And there are consequences for our sin against God. The severe consequence is physical and eternal death.
“For the wages of sin is death…”
Romans 6.23a
Read Romans 3.10-18 to learn what sin is in our lives.
Here is the good news!
“…But the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 6.23b
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5.8
Jesus Christ died for us! Jesus paid in full the penalty (the wages) of our sin, which is death. His death took away our death. And Christ’s resurrection from the dead proves that God accepted Jesus’ death as paying the penalty (the wages) of all our sin.
Because Jesus Christ lives, we will live also forever with Him in heaven.
“If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved…”
Romans 10.9
Believe in Jesus Christ, by faith alone, for the forgiveness of your sins and you will be saved from all of your past, present and future sins.
“For ‘Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.’”
Romans 10.13
God’s offer of salvation from sin, the forgiveness of our sins, is available to anyone who will, by faith alone, believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.
We are saved by His grace alone and our faith alone in Jesus Christ alone. We are not saved by our works.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
Ephesians 2.8-9
“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ…”
Romans 5.1
Through our faith in Jesus Christ, we have a peaceful relationship with God.
“Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
Romans 8.1
God will no longer condemn us to death for our sins.
“For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8.38-39
We have this promise for us from God.
